Celebrating a Century: 100 Years of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation

May 2023 - April 2024
The Thomas Jefferson Memorial Foundation was established in 1923. This exhibit explores the work of the Foundation over the last century, even as we look ahead to the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of American Independence in 2026 and to the next 100 years of bringing history forward into national and global dialogues.

"Enlighten the People": Research, Education, and Preservation at Monticello and Beyond

Since 1994, the Robert H. Smith International Center for Jefferson Studies (ICJS) and its member departments have supported every aspect of the Foundation’s work. ICJS has enabled Monticello to meet the challenges of telling a more complete story of this place, the people who lived here, and the world in which they lived. This is a closer look at how we strive to, as Thomas Jefferson once said, "enlighten the people generally."
